I live just a few miles from the Library of Congress and may head over this weekend or next.

If I am there, is there anything that I can help with here as far as looking up info on films? I don't know how reliable the LOC online lookup is (I think I finally have it figured out). Does anyone have any films they are considering adding to the archives here but you aren't sure about it's status? Maybe I can look it up while I am there and have a live librarian to help out.
I already have a few I am looking up and I don't want to be deluged or anything but thought I would offer to help.

Just FYI stopped by the LOC and got my LOC card but didn't have time for any research today.

Related question: How does one find out if a foreign film is covered under copyright by GATT here in the U.S. I think I have been reading contradicting accounts of how it works. I thought that it was thus: If a work was copyrighted in it's country of origin or renewed there, the US would respect that through the GATT. But if it lapsed into public domain there then that meant that it also was public domain here.

I guess what I am trying to figure out is, how does someone show due diligence to research what is still copyrighted in a work's country of origin? Is there really any way? I have a long list of films I really want to check out.

Hi,

I've just seen your offer to look up for Films.
We are making a documentary about Dolls and Women. And we want to use fragments of two Shirley Temple Films:
Bright Eyes http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0024914/
and
Heidi http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0028988/

The research for us here in Argentin is very expensive and it would be great if you can give us a hand. Maybe we can help you out another time. (We film, edit, make screen design)

Best
Christoph

Will post this in the forum as general request too.

I feel like I benefit a lot from this resource and since I have no money right now for donating I feel like if I can help I should.

No one has any suggestions about things I can look up while at the LOC? Maybe some questions to ask of the librarians there?
